Dumbo - the pink elephants

What can I say about Dumbo (1941) that is has not been already said.

The animation is less detailed and elaborate in comparisson to its predecessor Fantasia.
It has no prince or princess or Dwarfs in it compared to Snow White.
But it has a quite fantastic scene with pink elephants in it!
I dont quite know why or who at Disney came up with the idea to add this to the animation but its quite genius. The original childrenbook story is just 8 pages long and I doubt Dumbo got drunk in it.

The scene starts when little drunk Dumbo blows a drunk bubble and it takes form of pink elephants. From this point on it becomes an ode to alcohol and the fun it brings.
Because Fantasia was a "failure" the animation was working with a smaller budget to compensate for the losses made. This all lead to an animation that was less detailed but strong in form and style.
The images are easily read because of the absence of shadows and background elements and the use of contrasting colours.

Crazy Cabellero - inspiration for transformation

Last week I finally found some time to check out some Disney animations. After seeing Dumbo for the first time at the age of 28, what made some eyebrows rise around me, I went for the The Three Caballeros (1945).
The animation itself is quite OK but what really caught my attention was trippy Mexican gift scene. In this scene Donald Duck and Joe Carioca unwrap a gift and it explodes in to a trippy musical scene that gets more fantastic and caleidoscopic when Donald gets suck into the colourful background.
